Specialist, Indirect Tax

Summary
The Indirect Tax specialist will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of indirect tax compliance and providing guidance and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations, while also identifying opportunities for tax optimization.
 
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and manage all aspects of indirect tax compliance for the company which includes sales tax, service tax and excise duties. Experience with GST will be an added advantage.  
  • Provide guidance and strategic recommendations on indirect tax matters to ensure full compliance with applicable laws, while proactively identifying opportunities for process improvements to mitigate potential risks.
  • Collaborate across teams to identify and implement tax optimization opportunities, as well as ensure accurate tax reporting.
  • Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations, as well as industry’s best practices, and to provide relevant updates and training to the Finance Team and other relevant personnel.
  • Prepare indirect tax returns and ensure a timely and accurate filing.
  • Manage all customs audits, communications with RMCD, and to work with external tax advisors and government agencies when required.
  • Assist on corporate tax matters and other ad-hoc projects which the team may be involved in.  
  • Serve as a role model and advocate for the company’s culture and values both internally and externally.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills
  • Minimum of 4 years work experience in the Indirect Tax Department of a Big 4 or Mid-tier accounting firm.
  • Possess good analytical skills with a proactive mind-set, resourceful and solutions oriented.
  • Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, with good spoken and written English and Bahasa Malaysia.
  • Independent and self-motivated with the ability to adapt and respond quickly to changes in the tax space.
